Private Dining Rooms in Adelaide: A Guide for Groups

4 min read

If you need a restaurant with a private room in Adelaide, Samurai Teppanyaki House in Hyde Park has three private rooms and whole-venue hire for 9 to 58 guests. Your own teppanyaki chef cooks at your table, there is no room hire fee, and you only need to reach a fixed minimum spend for the room. This guide covers how to choose a room for any group, then what Samurai offers.

How to choose a private dining room

Whatever venue you are comparing, the same five questions sort the options quickly.

1. How many people are coming?

Get a firm headcount range first. Rooms are usually sized with a maximum, and a room that is only half full feels flat. If your group is around 20, you need a room that comfortably seats 20, not one that fits 18 on a good day.

2. What is the real cost?

Ask whether the venue charges a room hire fee, a minimum spend, or both. A minimum spend is the amount your group must spend on food and drinks. If you spend less, the shortfall is usually added to the bill. Check what counts towards it: food only, or drinks as well.

3. What will the group actually do?

A long set-menu dinner suits a quiet evening. A birthday or a client dinner often benefits from something to watch and talk about. Think about whether you want conversation, entertainment, or both.

4. Is it easy to get to?

Check parking, public transport, and whether guests can get home safely. For an evening with drinks, a venue near taxi or rideshare pick-ups, or with parking close by, takes pressure off the organiser.

5. What are the extras and the rules?

Ask about cakes, decorations, dietary needs, a kids menu, deposits and cancellations before you commit. These small details cause most last-minute stress.

  • Osaka Room, up to 9 guests: minimum spend $1,200 (Wednesday and Thursday dinner, and all lunches), $1,400 (Friday and Sunday dinner), $1,600 (Saturday dinner)

  • Tokyo Room, up to 18 guests: $1,500, $1,800 and $2,000

Per-person menu prices are $140 for the Samurai Course, $175 for the Double Wagyu Delight and $330 for the Kobe Degustation (served to the whole table). Vegetarian and kids menus can be mixed in.

As a rough guide, nine guests on the Samurai Course come to $1,260 before drinks, which is already above the Osaka Room's weekday minimum of $1,200. Confirm the details when you enquire.

A group of about 20

The Tokyo Room holds up to 18, so a group of around 20 would normally look at the Kyoto Room, which holds up to 40. The Kyoto Room works well for 25 to 40 guests.

Who it suits

  • Birthdays and anniversaries. You can bring your own cake with no cakeage fee, and decorations are allowed in a private room. Tell Samurai when you book.

  • Corporate dinners. A chef cooking at the table gives colleagues or clients something to talk about.

  • Family celebrations. Kids menus are available for children 12 and under, and most dietary needs can be noted at booking.

  • Larger parties and events. Hire the whole venue for up to 58 guests.

If you would rather have the grill come to you, Samurai also offers teppanyaki catering at your home or venue.
